Dear Clients,
As 2007 draws to a close, we at Grenada Marine would like to take this opportunity to extend to you our warmest wishes for the holidays. By now many of you have already returned to Grenada and launched, some of you will be doing so soon, and others will be hauling with us early in 2008. To all of you we wish to thank you for your patronage, and pledge our continued commitment to provide you the best service possible.

This year has been one of many changes and developments here at Grenada Marine. By August we had achieved our maximum storage capacity and for the first time since 2004 we had to refuse reservations; the influx was a bit unexpected but very welcome as you can imagine. Throughout the year we had a few staff changes – Maria, Brendon and Alan all left to pursue other endeavors, and our best wishes are with them. We welcomed Raphael LaBarrie (finance/administration consultant), Anderson Glaude (in-house customs broker) and Ricky Thomas (IT/Project Management). During his tenure with us Ricky organised one of the major adjustments to our project management with the implementation of our online extranet (via Google), allowing all the key personnel to access and collaborate on works lists, schedules, calendars and deadlines. This made a significant difference in our ability to co-ordinate ongoing projects and our only regret is that it was not implemented earlier in the season. Ricky is leaving us at the end of December for a 6-month period to continue his education; we wish him all the best and look forward to his return in mid-2008. Throughout the service departments there have also been some personnel reshuffles as we continue to develop efficient teams and crews. This year we have seen some encouraging potential from many of the employees and we are working on developing the staff’s professional and personal growth in the new year.

Feedback from you – our clients – has always been crucial to our growth and development. This year we have been happy to hear from many of you that you are seeing improvements in our service, our productivity and our staff. We have come a long way, but we do recognise we still have a long way to go. We thank you for your patience and for entrusting your yachts in our care. We hope you will continue to let us know your thoughts, comments, suggestions and criticisms – all feedback is helpful feedback.

We wish to let you know that our new rate sheet has been completed and will be posted on the website (www.grenadamarine.com) in time for January 1st 2008. All rate changes are effective from that date. We encourage you to check the website for updates.

Please note that we have decided to close the yard/office on Monday December 31st, 2007, which would have ordinarily been a working day, in order to give the staff a “mini-holiday”. We will re-open on Wednesday January 2nd, 2008. Please note that we are considering a similar type of vacation period next year – closing the yard from Christmas Eve through to the New Year. This period is usually a very quiet one and we believe the staff would both appreciate and benefit from having the break.

Dear Clients:

Last night/early morning Tropical Storm Felix passed just north of Grenada (current advisories at http://www.wunderground.com/tropical/tracking/at200706.html).

During the day yesterday, before Felix was even classified as a depression, the yard crew took the necessary storm preparation procedures, checking and reinforcing straps, checking the chocks, etc. Late last night and through the morning we experienced heavy rains and winds, power is off in many areas of the island including at the boatyard where we are operating on generator power. During the switchover due to the power outage our office server reset itself, resulting in an interruption in our weather station reporting; this has since been restored.

This morning, although we were still under an official TS Warning Advisory, personnel from the yard crew was at the yard assessing the situation. No boats on the hard were damaged. A couple of boats anchored in the bay dragged, among them Fred Thomas’ Apollonia, and Alan Reynolds’ Moondancer. Moondancer suffered minor grounding damages. Within the next couple of days we will be checking the boats for water ingress, leaks etc. and will advise the relevant boat owners if any issues or problems are found.

Dear Clients:

Advising that as of 11am this morning, Grenada and its dependencies were placed under a Tropical Storm Warning in advance of Hurricane Dean. Although forecasts and projections place Dean’s path to the north of Barbados, well away from Grenada, please be advised that we are proceeding with our usual storm preparations. Apart from that, the weather here today is sunny with a light breeze.

Dear All:

Our financial year ended on June 30, 2007. On that date we closed our accounts data file and opened a new 2007-2008 data file. Many of you may have received your July storage invoices which indicated that were from South Coast Holdings Ltd – Grenada Marine. Please be assured that this is not a problem – South Coast Holdings is our parent company; it appears we had not made the necessary adjustments to the format and layout of our invoices prior to them being automatically emailed out from the accounts data file. This has been rectified this morning so future invoices/statements should resemble those you are familiar with.

Within the next 10-14 days we will be clearing and sorting through any charges, billings and credits from the pre-year end period in order to have your account balances (if any), as of the end of June, transfered to our new operating data file. We ask for your continued patience during this time.

Just a reminder that invoices and statements are emailed through our accounting software (Quickbooks) in the form of Adobe PDF documents. Sometimes your spam filter may block those emails so please adjust your settings to allow these emails through. You can download the Adobe PDF Reader here.

In the case of clients with pocketmail/sailmail/winlink or other such email addresses that do not allow attachments, please advise your alternate or preferred method of invoice delivery.
