Dear All,

As 2010 draws to a close, we at Grenada Marine extends to you our warmest wishes for the holidays and we would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you for your support. Feedback from you – our clients – has always been crucial to our growth and development. Despite some scheduling setbacks this year, a large number of yachts were launched during the October/November/December period. As always, we thank you for your patience and for entrusting your yachts in our care. We hope you will continue to let us know your thoughts, comments, suggestions and criticisms – all feedback is helpful feedback.

2010 saw continued growth and development at Grenada Marine. In February we opened our outpost booking office at the Camper Nicholson’s Port Louis Marina in St George’s. The Port Louis office has enabled us to expand our off-site services, particularly with respect to our growing list of dealerships and agencies; this year alone we are pleased to have added Mastervolt, Balmar, Dessalator and GMPCS to our roster. In September we welcomed Mark Solomon onto the project management team and have been pleased to already see the benefits of Mark’s contribution over the past three months. Also in September we were joined by management consultant Rosetta Weston who has been tasked with the responsibility of reviewing and streamlining our administrative and operational procedures. We have begun a comprehensive overhaul of our security team, which has included nearly doubling the size of the security staff and hiring a former law-enforcement officer to supervise the department.

The year has included its share of emotional events for the Grenada Marine team. Our administrative assistant Arlene Telesford and customs broker Ricky Telesford expanded their family with the birth of their daughter in August. But it is with great sadness that we said goodbye to electrician Shon Elcock who passed away three weeks ago; he will be missed by both the staff and our clients.

Please note that the boat yard and the restaurant will be closed from mid-day December 24th 2010 until January 3rd 2011. Our security officers will be on the premises during the holiday period as we will have clients living aboard and returning during that time; senior supervisors will be a telephone call away in case of any emergency. Waterside Restaurant at neighbouring Bel Air Plantation will be open daily from 7am to 11pm.

We wish to let you know that our new rate sheet has been completed and will be posted on the website (www.grenadamarine.com) on January 1st 2011. All rate changes are effective from that date. We encourage you to check the website for updates.

For those of you who have already launched, we wish you fair winds and safe, trouble-free sailing for the season. For the boats that will be launching in the new year, we look forward to welcoming you back to Grenada and the service and warm reception you can expect from Grenada Marine. To our future clients, we look forward to having you with us and anticipate the establishment of a long-lasting relationship. We wish to thank you for your patronage, and we pledge our continued commitment to provide you the best service possible.

With our best regards and wishes for a happy, healthy, peaceful and prosperous 2011.

From all of us to all of you,
Jason Fletcher and the Grenada Marine Team

Dear Clients:

We are well into the summer season here at Grenada Marine and we are arranging our project completion and launching schedule. Please let us know the expected dates for your return to Grenada and for a possible launch date. Please give yourself a few days between your return date and your launch date, so that you have adequate time to prepare the boat.

Please note the following public holidays when the yard will be closed.

August 9th and 10th, 2010

October 25th, 2010

December 24th 2010 to January 3rd 2011.

If there are any clients who are still awaiting information on estimates, projects or work lists, please let me know by return email. We wish to remind you that the boat’s account must be completely paid prior to the boat being launched, so please keep this in mind if you are arranging wire transfers.

As the hurricane season is here, we would like to take this time to remind you of our basic storm preparation procedure.

When a storm warning is issued, all staff members begin the process of checking and tightening straps, removing covers and securing items on the boats and in the yard. The office will send you emailed updates about the storm. At that time we would not be able to respond to emails or telephone calls as our primary concern would be securing the boats in the yard. Once the yard is closed, updates will be posted through our website www.grenadamarine.com and our Facebook account http://www.facebook.com/grenada.marine. After the storm has passed, our priority would be contacting the owners of damaged boats and inspecting all the boats. Your patience and understanding during that time would be appreciated. All updates and information available would be posted on our website and our Facebook.

Many thanks in advance.

Earlier this year, Grenada Marine began the construction of our new Staff Facilities building. The building comprises lockers, showers, toilets, a kitchenette and an eating/general area. We are quite excited about the construction of this building, as the employees were, up to now, temporarily occupying the area to the rear of the client washrooms.

As the construction of the Staff building was in the last stages of completion, we also began a program of upgrading and renovating the existing client washroom building. The facelift included re-tiling of the shower stalls, new fixtures, installation of a lowered ceiling for increased privacy, and a full re-painting of the interior and exterior.

On Friday July 3rd, 2009, we had the formal dedication and official handing over of the Staff Facilities to the employees. Below is a slideshow of the dedication ceremony, as well as some shots of the client facilities.

Dear Clients,

We know you all love boats as we do so we have decided to share a very exciting project with you.

The master is at it again. Mr Baldwin DeRoche, the renowned boat-builder from Carriacou, has begun another project and this time Grenada Marine is the client!

Mr DeRoche has built many boats over the years, quite a few of which have become famous in their own right. During the build of Shack-Shack I will, on a regular basis, update the web album that we are sharing with you and the world through the web site. The album and updates will show the ongoing progress of the project, and more interestingly it will illustrate the process behind the building of these traditional wooden boats.

Click for Shack-Shack Photo Gallery

We hope you enjoy this project as much as we will.

Regards
Jason Fletcher
Yard Manager

We are pleased to announce that we are in the final phase of our expansion into Y4 (Yard Section 4) and that today we have chocked our first boat in that section. Y4 is expected to accommodate up to 80 boats, which will bring our total yard capacity to approximately 250.

As many of our clients are aware, we have been planning the expansion into Y4 for some time. In May we reached our maximum reserved capacity for the existing sections of the yard and we had to decide between closing reservations for 2008 or pushing forward with completing Y4. Jason took the difficult decision and committed to the expansion, even without firm funding in place, and the hard work got underway in earnest. Almost every department, from the metal shop to the electrical department, and most importantly the Yard Crew, has worked tirelessly to bring the project to fruition.

Below are some pictures chronicling the progress of the project.
